Invented by Audrey Saunders at the Pegu Club in NYC, this is an wonderful variation of the Manhattan Cocktail.
The Manhattan is such a lovely drink and it can be a lot of fun to make alterations to this classic cocktail.
The addition of the artichoke based liqueur Cynar makes this a complex, bitter and pleasing cocktail.
Grapefruits are reasonably priced and delicious this time of year -- a twist which adds an extra layer of complexity.
In my opinion, bitters makes almost every drink a little better, so I added a dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters.
The best Manhattan I ever experienced was at Employees Only. Igor at ‘EO' mixed mine with a splash of Grand Marnier, so now I add a little Orange Liqueur to my Manhattans whenever possible.
If you have all these ingredients handy, I encourage you to try my twist on Audrey Saunders' great Little Italy Cocktail. Or feel free to experiment with what you do have on hand!

Dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
